Textbook Returns


Textbook Return Policy

  • You have two weeks from the beginning of classes to return textbooks for a full refund.
  • After the second week of classes, refunds will only be considered in the event of a course cancellation or change.
  • Course materials purchased after the first two weeks of classes are not returnable.
  • Coursepacks, study aides, Nursing Kits, and lab supplies are non-returnable.
  • The UNBC Bookstore is not responsible for the condition of the book once it has left the store.
  • All returns are at the discretion of store personnel

Conditions of Return:

  • You must have the original cash register receipt.
  • A Student ID number is required for all refunds and exchanges.
  • New textbooks must be in PERFECT condition. Returns are accepted based on the standards set by the publishers. Publishers will not accept any book with even just the slightest defect or damage.
  • If the textbook is purchased new there is no refund if the book is fully or partially read, used, marked, bent, torn or if the spine is cracked. So make sure it is PERFECT before you leave the store after purchase.
    • If you notice anything please have the cashier note any damage on the receipt before you leave the store in case you need to return the book.
  • USED textbooks must be in resalable condition.
  • Must be in original packaging; no refunds or exchanges if shrink wrap has been removed.

Defective Merchandise:

  • In the rare occurrence of a defective textbook (new or used), it will be replaced with a like copy, if available.

Online Orders:

  • Returns or exchanges require prior authorization. Please email us at bookstore@unbc.ca for assistance.
  • Returns made from purchases online must follow the return policy and conditions stated above.
  • Textbooks must be returned in the exact condition they were sold; items damaged during the return shipment will not be accepted.
  • Coursepacks, study aides, Nursing Kits, and lab supplies are non-returnable.
  • We recommend that packages being returned are insured using a traceable shipping method (i.e. Purolator Courier or Priority Post). We do not accept responsibility for items lost in transit.
  • The original receipt must be returned with the product.
  • Refunds are issued in the original form of payment; to the credit the card used for the original purchase.
  • Original shipping charges are refunded only when the return is due to an error in processing or shipping by the Bookstore or the product is defective.
  • In your return shipment, please include:
    • Item(s) being returned
    • Your receipt or a printout of your order record
    • Original packaging, if possible
    • Reason for return.
    • Your Name, Address, Phone Number, Email and Student ID Number
  • Online returns are also accepted in person at the UNBC Bookstore.
